Meet our Presiding Overseer
Metropolitan Archbishop Shaquille Lawrence is the Founder and Presiding Overseer of Zion Independent Baptist Church. He leads the church in its worship, spiritual life and ministry in Brixton.
Zion brings together an independent Baptist identity and a Jamaican Revivalist worship tradition. At the heart of its ministry are prayer, the teaching of Scripture and fellowship, alongside a desire to offer practical care to people in the local community.
As Presiding Overseer, Archbishop Lawrence provides spiritual leadership and direction for the church. The ministry's guiding words, “Mend the broken hearted and set the captive free”, express its heart for restoration, encouragement and hope in Christ.
“Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;”1 PETER 5:2 · KJV
The heart of our ministry
Worship. Teaching. Care.
Rooted in Scripture
The Bible is central to our teaching and worship, helping us grow in faith and apply God's Word to everyday life.
Care for people
Pastoral support and practical community outreach reflect our desire to stand alongside people through life's challenges.
